Description

Researchers studied how the variable kingsnake – commonly found in deserts and pine-oak forests – climbed steps in Li’s terradynamics lab. “These snakes have to regularly travel across boulders and fallen trees – they’re the masters of movement and there’s much we can learn from them,” he said.

Sneel is a swimming robotic water-snake, constructed to explore lifelike, sinuous motion in an aquatic robot. It is designed to navigate unknown territory and extreme terrain.

A ballast system of some sort... Maybe a remotely controlled intake connected to a tube that you can remotely open the front, and the rear port of the tube is an outlet only valve. Open the intake to let in water and make the device heavier so that it descends. cut length of plastic 5/16" tube to the length of the snake. Slip it over the OUTPUT nozzle on the pump (the more narrow nozzle is the output). I like to briefly blast the junction with a heatgun once I slip on the tube to make the connection nice and snug. Secure a hose-clamp around the tube at the joint. In this step we will be taking the three photocell sensors and using them to drive the motor speeds. In our code we will be refering the motors to Motor A or Motor B, based on where they are plugged into the motor shield, and the sensors will be Sensor 3, Sensor 4, and Sensor 5, based on where they are attached to the analog readings. Sensor 3 and Sensor 4 will be the directional sensors and Sensor 5 will be the ambient light sensor. Acquire fabric of prefered choice. We used green fabric to make it look like somewhat more snake looking. Measure the size of balsa wood base, sketch it on fabric. Make sure that after "PORT:" it says something like "usbserial-A700xxx". If not, select "RESCAN SERIAL PORTS".

The vibration motor is added to simulate the a rattling tail on a snake. We were given our vibration motor from class, so we do not have a model number, but just like the other steps of this project, use the size motor that best fits the snake that you are building. We wanted the smallest motor possible, so that it would be able to fit on the small tail piece we were building. First, measure the size of arduino uno and breadboard. After acquiring the size of arduino uno and breadboard, sketch the snake’s base with little hole on them so they can be attached with each other later on. The base of head should be theoretically bigger than the other base pieces to have balanced weight since the wheels will be attached to the head. Total 7 bases were sketched for our project. Items that are not available in store will take 3-5 working days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to be delivered to your nominated store.Snakes have a bit of a reputation of being slimy and creepy (not true, but that’s the rep they’ve got). But for those of you who appreciate snakes for the critters they truly are, this awesome Robo Snake, in a choice of scarlet or green, might be just the fella you’re after. NOTE: if Arduino is to be housed in the frotnt of the snake, connect the pins low to high from arduino to the servos that are most close to the head to far away) . in other words: the first servo (as in when the snake is moving ahead, the servo at the HEAD) should be digital pin 2, and the tail end servo shoudl be digital pin 11.

Once it is all the way on, I use the string on both sides to hoist the carbon fiber all the way into to the end of the vacuum tube. I tie a knot here to prevent slipping.

Prepare the xbee breakout board (solder on the 2 rows of male headers and 2 rows of 2mm xbee female headers) Sneel is the name of my snake / eel swimming robot. This is documentation of hardware, software and mechanical design of Sneel_003. If the steps got taller and more slippery, the snake would move more slowly and wriggle their front and rear body less to maintain stability.
