Horses rely heavily on fermentation by a number of different species of bacteria to digest plant material in the large intestine. Changes in diet, stress and exercise can lead to imbalances between the different species of bacteria, which in turn can upset the environment in the hindgut and cause overgrowth of bad bacteria. Fungal toxins (mycotoxins) which are common feed contaminants, but difficult or impossible to detect without laboratory testing, can lead to growth impairment, poor condition, poor health and poor performance. Acid Ease contains the same probiotic and prebiotics found in Gut Balancer, alongside a combination of calcium and magnesium carbonate, fibre, kaolin and amino acids which together act to buffer excess acid and soothe the gut lining. Acid Ease is suitable to calm excess acid in all horses and weaned foals.

A dry supplement containing herbs, such as slippery elm, meadowsweet and cramp bark, to help support healthy digestion, optimum nutrient absorption and maintain balanced pH levels. This is especially helpful during a change in routine. Medina, B. et al. (2002) Effect of a preparation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on microbial profiles and fermentation patterns in the large intestine of horses fed a high fiber or a high starch diet. Journal of Animal Science, 80(10), pp.2600-2609. MOS & Beta-glucans MOS and Beta-glucans are prebiotics, which means they create beneficial effects for resident microbes within the digestive tract. MOS is a large molecule which binds toxins produced by “bad” bacteria. Beta-glucans are able to interact with the immune system found in the digestive tract and stimulate it to improve its defence mechanisms. Research has been performed on these ingredients in the production animal sector as follows: Forageplus has found that the protocol for feeding this product is best as feeding for a two-week period and re-assessing and either reducing the feed rate to 50% if all behaviours have gone or kept at the full rate of 40 grams per 100 kg of body weight for another 2 weeks. Do this one more time if only partial or no progress is made.Acid Buff – provides a slow-release form of one of the key nutrients, calcium carbonate which has an acid buffering action superior to normal calcium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate This brewer’s yeast supplement is naturally rich in vitamins and amino acids to support good gut health. This supplement targets both the fore and hindgut, supporting the gastric environment and helping to maintain an optimum pH level. Suitable for all horses and ponies, on high cereal or forage diets for ongoing digestive tract maintenance and general wellness of the equinedigestive tract.

The rate at which it is fed is guaranteed to deliver the highest levels of Pre and Probiotics compared to any brand. Gut Balancer TM also contains a source of mannanoligosaccharide (MOS), fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and betaglucans, which help stimulate the growth of good bacteria and bind mycotoxins produced by fungal contamination of feed. In two studies, results were seen in just 7 days. This product is highly concentrated and has a strong taste. For fussy feeders introduce slowly or mix with a small amount of molasses. Split between meals where possible. Includes aloe vera gel extract – soothes vulnerable and delicate gastric epithelial cell lining for optimum digestion

One of our core values is transparency. That’s why we list all the active ingredients per daily feeding rate so you know exactly what your horse is getting.Pea Protein – raises levels of essential amino acids which has a range of benefits. High levels of essential amino acids support the formation of a strong epithelial intestinal lining free from weakness. However, balancers aren’t the panacea for everything. Grimwood cautions that while some balancers might have added ingredients, or “nutraceuticals,” for joint health, owners of older horses or ones who need joint support might get more efficacy from a joint supplement: “These [nutraceutical ingredients in balancers] can be useful but, if your horse has a real problem or his lifestyle is demanding on his joints, then a more targeted alternative would be to feed a specific joint supplement, in addition to your balancer or hard feed, as this may allow you to feed higher levels of a wider range of nutraceutical ingredients to, hopefully, greater benefit.” As the spring grass comes through, there is always the risk of very loose droppings, therefore a risk of colic, and for the first time i have had just one horse to graze a large area of pasture! This product has a combined ESC and starch that is under 10%. Why should you maintain healthy digestive systems in horses?
