I’d never heard Charles talk to me in such a gentle voice. Hearing him talk like that to Rita made my eyes sting with tears.

Scarlett Malone was a feisty headstrong young she-wolf, blessed by the moon goddess as the first Alpha Female. You are my acquisition. My slave. My sex slave. My property. I will pay you in spades, everything you and your father ever did to me and my people." He stated curtly. Hello, is Charles with you now?" There was a sweet voice on the other end of the line, but it made me feel uncomfortable. I could even imagine the complacent smile on the caller's face.Parker and his brother Rocco lost their mother at a young age cruelly. They believe to avenge her they have to take something from the party responsible.. an eye for an eye.. Codi, sweet, flirty, naive, charming Codi gets caught in the crossfire of a war she has no idea about. Parker’s only mission was to use her for information but the second she smiles at him he was a lost cause. I finally have a good reason to leave you. How can I not be happy?" I said jokingly. Worried that he wouldn't believe me, I plastered a big smile on my tearstained face. Justin begins to get jealous of the growing attachment between Claire and Gabriel, what will happen when Lucas confesses his feelings to Claire and is willing to do anything to fight for her love? Codi Rein is the planned target of the brothers revenge. However, things don't go to plan as Parker starts to interact with Codi and she is everything he isn't expecting. Codi is a great character, she is quite naive on some levels yet she is spunky and can hold her own when she has to. Their connection is undeniable and the chemistry between them is off the charts. And the heroine…gooood damn she was something else. At first I actually hoped I might like her; she seemed confident at first with men, flirting with the hero, even if she blushed a bit, and best of all, she left the date the second she saw him start dancing with another woman within minutes of the start of their first date, saying she doesn’t play games. All good so far - but unfortunately, the authors’ idea of humour and interesting characters is not something I share.

Revenge. How far would you go for vengeance? Parker and Rocco live through unimaginable pain. The loss of their mother. A father who beats them. Once they find out who was behind their mother's death they decide revenge would be theirs. An eye for an eye. Take away everything the man loves, then finish him. Stage one. His daughter. Parker starts following the daughter of the man who killed his mom. He wants to mess with her and then kill her. What happens when you aren't thoroughly consumed in the dark like you originally thought? What happens when you develop feelings for your target? But as I was wrapping my gift, I saw her in the dressing room, making out with the captain of the basketball team. She then heartlessly made fun of my inadequacy and made a fool out of me. To make things worse, the guy whom she cheated on me with even punched me in the face. I spent the whole night sitting on the bitter ache in my heart. Soon, daytime chased away the darkness.

Watching these two fall for each was the most beautiful and heart wrenching. Codi has been rasied a bit naive & sheltered, sure. She loves loudly, proudly and falls fast (relatable). Her character was so freaking endearing even though she was lost as to Parker’s motives I never found her annoying. I understand why she fell for him red flags be dammed. It’s so easy to love someone broken. As much as Parker tried not to fall for her it was inevitable. She brought a light to his darkness he didn’t know he needed. So what do you do when you have to choose between love of your life and love of family? I knew what she meant. To be honest, I didn’t hate the idea of having a child with Charles. In fact, I was happy to hear it. Don’t make her feel guilty. Tell her that you’re in love with someone else and that she can rest assured,” he answered, walking closer to me and eyeing me carefully.

I’m not giving this book 5 stars for two reasons: first, because the giant final confrontation worked out in such a weird way, that it seemed unrealistic. Especially because one character that has almost no reason to show up does, and it’s quite convenient when that happens. Second reason is because of how often Rocco and Parker used “bitch” in reference to women. I understand they had a difficult childhood, but none of it was caused by women. Their mom and aunt were the only good people in their lives, so their common disrespect for women as a whole made no sense to me. I grabbed a bathrobe, put it on, and tightly tied the belt around my waist. I closed the top part and folded my arms over my chest, hoping that it would warm my heart from the sheer iciness of Charles’s words. The tangled threads of Codi and Parkers love along with the betrayal of everything that Codi imagined mattered to her leaves her a broken shell of a woman. The chemistry of Parker and Codi is two-fold, one of hatred and one of innocence. The driving force of their pull for one another is not your standard love story. These characters are just perfect. They hate, they love, they have circumstances that are pulling them apart in the most dangerous of games but how can you love someone that has so much horrible, gut-wrenching history against you? Parker and Rocco were two brothers eaten away by grief with an incessant need for revenge. Their plot was to kill the daughter of the gang boss that took their mothers' life. Let him feel the same pain, the pain that you could only get by loving someone so much. Death for him wouldn't have been enough, he needed to suffer. He hated his wife, that was obvious, but he had a special connection to one of his daughters and so she became their intended target.Considering all of her life seemed to revolve around her job and talking with her sister, I don’t see how she’d even have the opportunity to do anything “bad”. Once upon a time, there were two kingdoms once at peace. The kingdom of Salem and the kingdom of Mombana... And before he knew it, he was lost, tangled and caught on the thorns of our beautiful disaster just as much as I was.” I was planning for our future while he was planning my funeral. I saw marriage and kids and he saw my death as his peace. I fell in love while he was still lost in hate. So watching the pile of cards come tumbling down around Parker's ears was a kind of karmic justice.

I finished this book last night, and I’m still a little speechless. Well, anyone who knows me knows I’m never truly speechless, but I’m trying to find the right words. Haley Jenner deserve all the best words I can write. I’ve never read books by two people that have had a flow to them as well as theirs. You can’t tell who writes what. I’ve read books before where two authors have written together and I could always tell which one wrote each chapter...you can’t with these two. I swear, they are the same person. Claire June was orphaned at the age of ten; her parents were killed right before her by a psychopath out to get revenge. Codi Rein will be thier penance. I'll rob her from them, they way they took her from me and I'll show them what real pain is."Unfortunately, i’d read a review that made this book sound like something completely different from what I personally got from it - which was an odd premise that I didn’t believe in, a run-of-the-mill asshole hero, and a 25-year-old virgin heroine who often baffled me with her logic (in other words, a run-of-the-mill heroine for CR).
