However, I do know of a player who died 2 or 3 years ago who was the absolute undisputed master of the particular style and technique you refer to. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.

I was stunned to discover fairly recently that this is still in publication, though in slightly different guise from the copy I had in October 1963. Apparently "play in a day" reads as twenty four one hour lessons - so you can take as long as you like finishing off the book!Born in East Ham, London, top guitar star Bert Weedon wanted to play the guitar from his very early childhood. Pick A Chord follows the ethos of Weedon's hugely influential Play In A Day book and DVD, giving guitarists the tools needed to start playing from day one. Ideal for the advanced pianist and a great insight into the mind of one America's greatest composers. Herbert Maurice William Weedon, OBE (10 May 1920 – 20 April 2012) was an English guitarist whose style of playing was popular and influential during the 1950s and 1960s. He subsequently became the UK's unlikely first ever guitar hero in 1959, when he charted with his lively cover version of The Virtues' twangy US hit 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle'.

He graduated to a semi-professional Dixieland jazz group, Harry Gold's Pieces of Eight, and performed with the violinist Stephane Grappelli and pianist George Shearing in the early '40s, and went on to work with Ted Heath, Mantovani and The Squadronnaires, before becoming a featured soloist for four years with the BBC Show Band programme. Was walking on Brighton Palace pier some years ago when I looked up on a raised part of the cafe deck and there he was with his wife sitting enjoying the sun and a cup of tea. He became the first British guitarist to have a solo record in the Hit Parade with "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" in 1959. Play in a Day' is easy to use, with plenty of tips for selecting the right guitar, the correct amplifier, how to hold your instrument and plenty of tunes and exercises to get to grips with. The lessons are quite difficult to follow but this should inspire the student; and if it was that easy you would not read the book. It's also, despite it's age, probably actually still the best and easiest-to-follow guide to the basics of playing guitar available - I bought this as a gag gift for the lead guitarist in my band, but we were both impressed by how clear it actually was (before he threw it at me when he realised what I was saying.

The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band mentioned Weedon in their song "We are Normal" on their album, The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse (1969).He made regular appearances on television, and a string of solo singles made him the most famous guitarist in the country; he was perfectly placed to take advantage of the birth of rock'n'roll. However, if you would like to, you can change your settings at any time using the Change cookie settings link in the Special menu.

Bert Weedon could only claim one Top 10 hit in his career but his influence could be heard on countless No 1s, not least through his best-selling guitar manuals. Although the video focuses primarily on Dr John, Eric does take a solo and every shot of his LH provides overwhelming evidence that during this performance at least, he somehow managed to shake off the "major influence" that Bert Weedon's teaching had on his LH technique, and play thumb over. May once referred to Weedon as the "Guitar Wizard" and "a legend", while in a 1970s interview Clapton said: "I wouldn't have felt the urge to press on without the tips and encouragement that Bert's book Play in a Day gives you. After just the first 25 minutes video tuition a complete beginner with nay six stringguitar will be able to join in with Bert Weedon and his group and play their first tune.
