Now that I’m older and know more about the things I am smelling (at least I like telling myself this) I can appreciate it for what it is and not just, “this smelled like my father”. It's classy, sophisticated, cool, player like, clean, manly, WELL PUT TOGETHER, without being stuffy and old. and i thought i have had enough of lemon citrus bottles for summer, but when i smelled this out of the four eau collection, i was just mesmerized.

Longevity in perfumes refers to the duration of time that a fragrance remains detectable on the skin or in the air after it is applied. However, Armani's offering seems to have a touch more testosterone added to the formula perhaps reflecting the powerhouse olfactory zeitgeist of the 80's as perhaps best represented by YSL's Kouros (1981) or Chanel's Antaeus (1981). Armani pour Homme by Giorgio Armani is an “Eau de Toilette” for men with a smell of citrus notes for men.The beginning is fresh, slightly green citrus, perhaps more aromatic, then an explosion of notes that characterize vintage, deep, emotionally charged perfumes. Even the synthetic smelling replacement (bottle chrome at bottom versus original black at bottom) is gone. I smellt it before, but it was warmer weather and I could smell patchouli after the citrus green opening.

I first smelled it in 1985 when I bought a bottle of Ralph Lauren's Monogram which had just come out. Well fast forward to the present day and I became aware of the new formulation which came out in 2013 I believe. It is important to note that the longevity factor alone should not be the sole determinant in choosing a perfume. This one is for educated, forward-moving, experienced, interesting, dashing men - at least in their mid-thirties. Synthetic astringent Citrus Faux Bergamot rich and Moss poor takes what was a Sleek and Chic to Scratchy and Drab.

It can feel a bit muddy by modern standards - it was a transitional scent after all, and maybe not the finest of it's type. You can forget about getting anywhere close to this level with cheapies such as Victor or Aqua di Selva. Unlike the original I received positive feedback with this version with one person saying it smelled gorgeous and expensive and someone else asking me if it was Acqua di Parma, which I've always liked also.

The original had a similar spice but from memory came out more clove like to me and made it smell a bit too old for me at the time whilst I didn't detect this in this current reformulation.The 'top' notes do dominate, and perhaps that's its downfall, but to be fair that's the case with most citrus perfumes.

If you are looking for a signature scent that has timeless elegance and will work as well with a crisp white shirt and tie or a polo shirt then include this on your shortlist.Never the less, I find myself ready for testing the new one now - knowing that the original is still all that. Acqua Di Parma Men Colonia Club Eau De Cologne is a green, musky, and slightly floral fragrance; Chanel Pour Monsieur is an elegant, musky, vetiver and citrus fragrance, classy, old-school, ideal for work environments; Jean Paul Gaultier Le Beau Male contains green, strong musky, animalic, and floral tones; L’Artisan Parfumeur Batucada is a marine, salty, green, and musky fragrance; L'Artisan Parfumeur Mon Numero 10 is woody, musky, floral and slightly animalic; Paco Rabanne Invictus Intense is a great performance, sweet, animalic musk, boozy, white floral and salty fragrance; Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel Men EDT is a strong musky, animalic, floral, green and mossy fragrance; Giorgio Armani Eau Pour Homme EDT is a classy, musky, mossy and green fragrance.
