While we're on this, Godox, please allow the flash to fire before it fully recycles. If I miss the recycle time at full power by 0.01 of a second, I get nothing. Not even the 95% of the power that was already charged. Please allow the flash to dump before it's fully charged in future models. Battery Reliable Performance: Thanks to its dimly lit environment, it ensures reliable and more efficient performance at lower light levels, making it possible to take better photos. It also has an impressive power output range of 22 steps that can be adjusted from full power down 1/1 to 1/128th for your free adjustment. Overall, this is the best Godox flash for Nikon Z5, Z6ii, Z30, Z50, D3500, D5600, D7500, and other camera users. The rear interface is better than previous Godox flashes. Gone are the optical modes (YAY!). Only radio master & slave now. The engineers have clearly put some thought into this part of the flash since it no longer possible to activate slave mode whilst the flash is mounted on the camera. In fact I use SB-700 with two SB-5000's; the SB-700 is older and I keep it around because it's convenient to use as an on-camera bounce flash while the SB-5000's are then used as radio-controlled remotes. I don't see any issue with the setup when used in this way (and bounce flash is the most common way I use a speedlight, so the SB-700 still gets used). This Godox V1 review isn't going to be about stats or shooting into bare walls and talking about lighting patterns. It is going to be based wholly on real world use.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my Godox V1 review. If you are hoping to buy this flash then I hope my thoughts will help you make up your mind. In terms of size and weight, the V1 weighs slightly less than the V860II at 530g and is slightly bulkier thanks to the round head. The body of the unit is slightly thinner than its older brother, however, giving it an overall more compact feel. The lighting pattern is definitely better. The light falloff is nicer and there's no centre hotspot as is common with a fresnel head speedlight. However, as mentioned. This is really only useful if you go around firing the flash directly at your subjects. The V1 can use the same accessories as the AD100Pro, which we described here. The AK-R1 kit includes many options and bring the V1 beyond the realm of traditional hotshoe speedlights and into the world of studio flashes. Godox V1 Compared With Other Options Bernard Dery | Light And Matter Godox V860 III, V1 and AD100Pro Advanced Features: There is no doubt that the GODOX V1-N will provide professional quality results at an exceptional price point, and they offer a number of features that cannot be ignored. With this flash, you’ll have access to reliable power and performance that won. You also get fully supported TTL auto flash, manual flash, L/8000s high-speed sync, and many more. It has a flash duration of 1/300 to 1/20000 seconds and can cover a range of 28 to 105mm. Powerful and Versatile: The Godox MF12-K2 is an incredibly powerful and versatile flash that can be adjusted from different angles. This makes it appropriate for both studio and outdoor shooting with an impressive range. It also features a built-in optical slave trigger with pre-flash detection, allowing you to synchronize multiple units for complex lighting setups. The most remarkable feature of this flash is that it is suitable for shooting extreme close-up subjects. My retailer showed me the A1X 'speedlight', it's a beautifull made but large unit which I see more as a highly portable studioflash than an allround speedlight.

The Godox V1 features a large range of controllable functions such as TTL, exposure compensation, high-speed sync, front-curtain sync, rear-curtain sync, multi-flash. MAGNETIC MOUNT I haven't noticed a big price hike in Nikon flashes compared to their past history, though when features are added such as active cooling in the SB-5000, greater zoom range, and radio control, it is understandable that the price does increase somewhat. A comparison to Yongnuo or Godox can be made of course, they are cheaper but to my knowledge there are no repair facilities across the world. I need a financially healthy Nikon over the course of a longer period of time and buying Nikon accessories helps with that, so I do that rather than complain when they go bankrupt and suddenly I have no support or repair parts for the Nikon gear that I use. In practice I always reach for the V1 first. Mainly because of the better UI. To the point that I no longer even take my Godox v860ii with me anymore to weddings. Out of the two, the V1 is the better flash.

Wireless Control

Multi-flash Setup: The MF12 can function as a multiple-flash unit when attached to the mounting ring and can extend its use much further than when used alone. The combination of flashes can handle several scenarios. As a final note, 2.4G wireless technology enhances your shooting flexibility and enables long-range transmission for your Nikon camera. The first downside is that the head is not able to zoom quite so much as a regular speedlight. This could be an issue for photographers who use the flash on camera as coverage may not quite be enough on the wide and not concentrated enough on the long end. For example, the Godox V860II zooms from 20mm to 200mm whereas the V1 only zooms from 28mm to 105mm. The wide-angle adjustment from 0°to 330° horizontally and -7 to 120° vertically, improving the shooting efficiency in bounce flash. V1 also supports software updates via USB. In master mode, individual groups can be turned on/off by pressing the group button repeatedly rather than having to press multiple buttons in previous flashes.

Godox has a full-featured lineup of flashes and strobes. Some of these are powerful, studio strobes, while others are more portable and multi-purposes. The V1 fits among the latter. It is a hot-shoe mounted speedlight, but includes many distinctive features, many of which are similar to the company’s V860 III: It's so simple. My laptop charges on USB-C, my Godox AD200 now has the UC-29 charger, the Fujifilm X-T3 uses USB-C as it's interface, my portable SSDs use it, my phone uses it, Intel runs Thunderbolt through it, AMD will soon have support for the standards. Let's take this standard and run with it. Please. Built-in Godox 2.4G wireless X system offers all-in-one function and great compatibility with other devices working in this system (lamps, transmitters, etc.) In fact, up to four wireless groups can be controlled in a master/slave configuration so that the settings made in V1 are duplicated on the slave lamps. The V1 includes a dot matrix LCD like we’ve seen on their other models. However, this time the default color is a bright blue that makes the screen easy to read, even in bright daylight. As with the V860, the screen turns orange when slave mode is activated to give you an easy way to know which mode the flash is in. As with other models, the buttons on the flash are context sensitive and their current function is displayed on the screen. This makes it easy to know exactly what the buttons are going to do as you work. The battery is a smaller capacity than the ever popular v860ii. I’ve found in practice I’m able to shoot two weddings per charge. Whereas the v860ii, I could easily get through three weddings before having to charge the battery. You can use SB-5000's as on-camera flashes and as optically triggered remotes on CLS-compatible older camera bodies. However, radio control is only available with the D5, D850, D500, D7500, Z6 and Z7, for now. The V1 uses a new battery, the VB26. This is a 7.2volt 2600mAh battery. This is compared to the v860ii VB18 battery which has a capacity of 2000mAh
