There were also some hair accessories that we didn’t use (namely the small little elastic bands) but presumably these are included so that other hair styles and ‘looks’ can be created too. Qtee's hairstyle by removing the accessories stuck in her hair and brushing it out until it's silky smooth! Rainbow High dolls have lovely, sturdy bodies, clear eyes, makeup that isn't chipping off, and two detailed, multi-piece outfits that provide good options for mixing and matching.

It's unhemmed and made from some sort of slightly stretchy thin fabric with printed on pattern and belt. Articulation on these dolls is decent but not good; they have multiple body types, which was one of the big draws for me from the beginning. I got a laugh out of the highly-detailed silly faces, and appreciated the gravity-defying nature and artistic shapes in the tangled hair, but I was always genuinely surprised and pleased by how lovely the tamed hair and underlaying faces looked.Parents, if you're planning on getting one of these for your kids, be prepared to step in for the box opening, because I doubt a child could do that part on their own. When I overexert myself the left side of my body grows weak, weak enough that I can't straighten my left index finger.

I was kind of hoping I'd get the sparkle variant since I've only seen examples of day wear and a few elusive night styles as well. On the doll I got, the “fail” face is actually cuter than the “fixed” face – that gimmick could have been done so much better, why did they think it was cute/cool to peel off a doll’s face instead of just having some kind of wipe-away or color-change thing? I know that the face the doll is wearing is supposed to have messed-up makeup, but when I saw her lips I thought she had a paint gaffe. Charming is just the word that keeps coming to mind every time I look at her, honestly; there’s sort of a kawaii anime look to these dolls.

A lot of parents complained that the makeover theme was damaging to kids--that there should be no concept of "failed" hair or makeup, and that these dolls emphasize makeup and beauty too much. I pulled multiple small segments up and tied them with the elastic bands these dolls all came with, tucked the front under the second and fiddled with it all till I came up with something that kinda resembled her box art. These dolls' makeover gimmick and expressive faceplate transformation feature remind me a bit of the Inner Monster dolls--perhaps your review of that would be good to also link in the section discussing removable faces!
