The popular Orient Bambino dress watch features a simple, clean and elegant design, which is loved throughout the world. For me, this specific configuration with the Roman numerals and tachymeter chapter ring looks really great. If you’re looking for something very high end, we recommend going straight to a custom strap maker such as JonesinTokyo. Whereas other companies tend to struggle to find the balance between a looks and quality (hey, aren’t we all), Orient has it down.

It’s not obnoxious, but for my wrists at least, it is 1-2mm outside what I consider the ideal dress watch diameter. But with every new iteration, a certain things remain the same: a signature domed crystal, a domed dial, and the ability to wear it anytime, anywhere, and with anything. With a simple, classic look, the watch can also successfully be dressed down with fabric or textured straps, but avoid NATOs, rubber or silicone. However, it was a lot dressier and not quite as versatile, and I much prefer the range of dial options that comes with the Gen 2.With kind regards to the premium watch brands that continue to inspire us, our eyes lean towards the affordables that are interesting in their own right. Its shape makes it a target, too- you don’t realize the difference the extra few millimeters makes when getting into vehicles, reaching into drawers, and on. The Bambino Small Seconds removes the large water resistant text and just has the Orient logo on the front. It isn’t as soft as it could be, feeling about as good as the strap on the Stuhrling Original Delphi Acheron.

There is also a Bambino “Small Seconds,” which takes the second hand and moves it to a chronograph like sub-dial and adds some Roman numerals. The main differentiator here is that the designs across Timex feel very grounded and much more subtle with how they approach their aesthetics.

A fantastic option for your first watch, it takes a movement from a reliable watch company and puts it in an incredible looking package. You can also shave off 1 mm with a knife if your strap material is a solid color and the cut won’t show. The numerals and narrow dauphine hands are rose gold and contrast beautifully with the silver-white dial and stainless steel case. Bambino – Small Seconds takes the second hand and moves it to a small sub-register at the 6 o’clock position. Quite a few styles are now only available as used watches or from dealerships because they are no longer sold by Orient. It is also possible that it was written by a someone who introduced it knowing it’s double meaning, maybe even sneaking it past an older out of date editor. Below are examples of the different versions (we’ve only put two of each example below, but you can find all the models with links at the bottom of this post). Most people end up with a classic brown or black leather strap (depending on your dial color), but the versatility the Bambino offers is what makes it is such a great beginner watch.
