6 tips to starting a hair salon business

These 6 tips to starting a hair salon business can help make the difference in success or failure of your new beauty shop. Salon Insurance Quotes

1 The essential business plan

This is the most important part of your new venture into creating a self sustaining revenue stream. A new salon will not just become a success unless it follows the right business model. This plan will be the written path you take to ensure the longevity of your new business venture.  This should include both short term and long term goals.

You should also list where you will get the funds for your new business venture, your raw materials and supplies along with a marketing strategy. You should also have a list of fixed costs and those that will be variable.

2 Handling the finances

The money flow is key to being successful. By figuring out how much you need to start up your new business then know the daily costs of keeping it open are essential to know. You must also be capable of borrowing the funds you need when you need it. Your start up costs will include rent or mortgage, insurance, inventory, employee wages, equipment and supplies. What most new business owners are not willing to accept is that once the business opens, most are not profitable until one year down the road.

3 Location

The location for your new hair salon can make or break your business. A good location will have plenty of foot and car traffic passing by on a regular basis. It would also be helpful to be next to or in close proximity to a successful business with a good amount of foot traffic like a grocery or convenience store. Women frequent those types of establishments and you will get noticed.

3 Getting customers

A business is only successful if people know about it and use their services. A hair salon in the past would only use word of mouth as their marketing strategy. Today that is just not enough, but that is still needed. The newest way is to use social media to help draw in new customers. One strategy is to take pictures of your customers before and after to clearly show your work as a hairstylist. When your clients show their friends of them on your social page, you place will get noticed. Take time to understand your customers and if they are unhappy offer them a free treatment

5 Start off smaller than your dream

Starting a new hair salon begins with a lavish dream of what you want. This is great, but it has to be realized that is the goal, not how you can start. Begin your operations slowly and small then over time build upon it. If you start out too big, you could run out of funds and be forced to close.

6 Review review review

For all businesses success comes from keeping costs down while not compromising on the service you are providing. Every month look at the expenditures and see just how they contribute to the business. Every cost must prove to be beneficial to your business. If there is no benefit, then it is wasted money and should be eliminated.

In conclusion

Opening any new business has inherent risks. These 6 tips to starting a hair salon business can help you to avoid the risks and succeed. What must be remembered at all times is to provide a high quality of service while maintaining low operating costs.

How to Handle Unhappy Salon Clients

How to Handle Unhappy Salon Clients

No matter if you have your own salon, you are a manager at one or simply an employee – the issue of unhappy clients will not pass you. People are different and ask for different things. Sometimes you will manage to get to the bottom of the issue with a simple explanation, but sometimes that will not do. Working with people in the beauty industry always draws situations where the customer was actually wronged or feels wronged although there was no fault from your side. Handling these situations effectively can spare you the headache, trouble and save your company's business look. It is important to know how to diffuse these situations and turn the feeling to the positive.

Wherever you are already dealing with these situations or not, it is always good to be prepared and react accordingly. Salon Insure Quotes have compilede some effective “How-to...” tips that will help you in the next disagreement at the salon:

How to Handle Unhappy Salon Clients is just part of operating a business that interacts with the public. Handling it in a consistent professional manner with the removal of as much emotion as possible is the most you can do to achieve the best possible results.

The first step in defusing the problem is to know what occurred that upset the client. For many when the salon owners agree with the client, they seem to calm down, even if it is just a little. Then you are heading in the right direction. Then look for a solution if one is possible.

Many disputes in a salon occur when a client desires one outcome, but their choices of what they asked for prevents it from occurring. By remaining calm you won’t make matters worse. You must also realize sometimes there is nothing you can do to make some clients happy.

The best part of this situation is as the salon owner you know you and your business are financially protected when you have both product and public liability insurance. While many upset clients might threatened to sue, most do not. If there is a lawsuit, you are protected so do not let it bother you when this threat is used.

Knowing how to Handle Unhappy Salon Clients in the proper manner can make the difference in the dispute deescalating or boiling over. Remain calm and remember you are protected because of taking out an insurance policy with liability coverage.

The Positive Effects of Tanning

The Positive Effects of Tanning

As spring approaches, it seems there is one question on individuals' minds: why do people go tanning? What about all those negative aspects of tanning? Do individuals who tan realize the danger involved? Well, looking at the positive aspects of tanning, one might be able to understand better. If you choose to visit a tanning salon please make sure the owner has taken out adequate tanning salon insurance should any accidents occur..

The warning about tanning beds has been poorly understood in the past. For instance, all of the cancer horror stories (especially skin cancer) that you hear about all came from individuals who went about tanning outdoor under the sun. 20 to 30 years ago almost everyone that went out in the sun for tanning would get burnt. This is what causes cancer, the repetitiveness of getting sun burnt.

Salon Insurance Quotes

Now for the Positive Side To Tanning

Of note, moderate sunlight exposure as sunbathing for a limited time or as delivered by tanning beds has never been attributed to cancer. Burning and overexposure have been linked to skin cancer. However, with Sunoco Tanning Beds you can adjust the optimal exposure to minimize the potential risks and therefore attain the only positive effects of the sun.

Sunlight is a rich source of Vitamin D, which is important to absorption of calcium. Calcium is the main ingredient in maintaining healthy teeth and bone structure. Your body synthesizes vitamin D when you are exposed to the ultraviolet B rays in sunlight. You probably need from 10 to 30 minutes of exposure to the skin (without sunscreen) two times every week. Traditionally, this important vitamin deficiency has been linked to rickets, a disease in which the bone doesn’t properly mineralize, leading to fragile bones and skeletal deformities. Symptoms of muscle weakness and bone pain can mean you are deficient in vitamin D. However, for many individuals, the symptoms are subtle. Even without symptoms, too little vitamin can induce health risks. Low blood levels of the vitamin D have been associated with the following symptoms:

  • podcast
    Bone Cancer
  • podcast
    Severe asthma in children
  • podcast
    Cognitive impairment in older adults
  • podcast
    Bone Cancer
  • podcast
Increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease

Vitamin D Production

If you are afraid of getting sun burnt or doing a busy indoor job, you may rely on tanning beds for getting a significant amount of vitamin D. You can reduce the potential risks of using a tanning bed by regulating the amount and frequency of rays. If you notice that you got burnt after your tanning session, then make sure next time you control exposure or reduce your time a little. Getting sun burnt is the worst thing you can do to your skin. Also, to decrease risk, be sure to wear the goggles for your eyes.

Benefits of Indoor Tanning

A session in Sunoco tanning bed is an effective way to advance your health while minimizing your risk of sunburn. Indoor tanning is also a great idea for those suffering from diseases, such as osteoporosis and psoriasis, as UV rays help the body manufactures required Vitamin D it needs to combat such conditions. This is also a great benefit to people who need to take their "solar vitamins” on a daily basis and are unable to do so on a rainy day.

Along with long, warmer days, spring season also comes with a plethora of ingredients perfect for healing, moisturizing and alleviating your skin. So instead of going to your local beauty salon try the salon insure quotes DIY solution.

Say yes to a scrub

The first step to the spring-ready skin is to shed your winter skin! Before you lament over your lack of pre-summer soft skin, go DIY. You can quickly make an at-home body scrub to slough off the last of winter’s dull skin. Choose either salt or sugar (sugar will be slightly gentler on the skin) and an organic oil of choice. We suggest olive and coconut oils for their richness. Coconut oil sugar scrub does a great exfoliating job, as it slough off all dead skin cells and give you a new, fresh look.

  • heart
Mix one part oil (of your choice) to two parts sugar or salt in a container. The contents will separate, which is entirely normal. Add two to three drops of your essential oil of choice. We love grapefruit or lavender. Now you have a pure and divine DIY body scrub to enhance your experience of next shower.

At-home hydrotherapy

Several spa treatments either start or end with some kind of hydrotherapy. Usually, it involves starting off in a warm pool and then plunging into a cooler one to boost circulation. You are left feeling relaxed yet energized, but you do not have to hit the spa for that to happen. All you need is hit the showers at your home.

  • heart
Start with a hot shower (not too hot but pleasantly warm) for one minute. Now, switch to cold water for 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat three to five minutes. Emerge feeling ready to face the long spring day!

Make it a mask

Treatment masks, whether applied at a spa or purchased from a beauty store, can be pricey, but you do not need to dip into your purse to treat your skin. What’s in your kitchen can be an affordable yet most effective way to get gorgeous skin. The most common skin care concerns in spring season are a complexion that’s a) too dry or b) too oily. Check out these two useful and quick fixes.

  • heart
Strawberry mask clarifies your skin and busts excess oil. Crush three to four berries, add two tablespoons of organic yogurt and the juice from one-quarter of a lemon. Mix well and apply to dry, clean skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse well.
  • heart
For an effective and cheap dry skin solution, add one tablespoon of yogurt in a mashed avocado. Mix well, apply and leave on for five to ten minutes. Rinse well and use your regular moisturizer.

Steam and tone skin

Instead of wasting hard-earned money on products meant to get your skin glowing, do it all on your own. Steam your skin (you don’t even need a steamer) to open the clogged pores and boost circulation.

  • heart
Simply add warm (not boiling) water to a glass bowl. Add few crushed mint leaves for freshness, cover your head with a large towel to keep the steam in and sit with your face over the bowl. Five to ten minutes should do the trick.

Next, it’s time to tone, but again you don’t need to hit the beauty aisle. Just brew chamomile or green tea, let it cool for few minutes  in the fridge, add to spray bottle, and voila - you have made a refreshing toner for the cost of a tea bag.

Natural Hair Products VS Chemical Hair Products

Natural Hair Products VS Chemical Hair Products

When deciding to use hair products, many of us are often confronted with the question of whether or not chemical-based hair products like shampoos and conditioners will damage our precious locks. The truth is that we all have different hair types, and therefore a number of factors may come into play when considering the choice of the product. Another factor if you happen to operate a hairdressing business using natural products may reduce the costs of your hair salon insurance.

John Brennan, CEO of Fuente Australia, weighs up the pros and cons of both organic hair products and chemical-based hair products and the outcome is concerning. Despite a tolerable level in the short term, it has been shown that synthetic products cause severe long-term damage not only to the quality of hair but also our overall physical as well as psychological health and well-being. In fact, the study has revealed that there are untested and unsafe ingredients in hair care products that we use every day. In some cases, these ingredients have been linked to toxicity in the nervous system, weaknesses of the immune system and even cancer.

Salon Insurance Quotes

Protect your business today. Compare quotes from multiple brokers.

Chemical-based products Advantages

  • Some chemical-based hair care products can be specially formulated to direct and manage hair problems that can result from constant bleaching or hair coloring, which makes them a savior for severely damaged hair.
  • Most synthetic hair products offer a short-term solution to problems such as dryness, breakage, and dandruff, thus significantly helps in the relief and management of these conditions. However, the results are short-term and do not address the underlying problems. Chemicals ingredients in them can cause even more damage.
  • Synthetic hair products often designed to help prevent heat damage caused by the frequent use of hair straighteners or hairdryers.

The Disadvantages

  •  Isopropyl alcohol is an active ingredient found in a large range of synthetic hair products, especially in hair color rinses. It is a denaturant, which means that it can change the natural qualities of your hair, and its inhalation in vapour form can actually cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and, in some cases, vomiting. Long-term effects on health are not known but are generally considered of great concern.
  • Artificial additives such as colors, fragrances, preservatives, stabilizers, and thickeners are found in many products for scalp care to extend the life of the product. These hazardous substances are highly absorbable into the skin and can cause significant irritation to sensitive people. Again, the long-term effects of these chemical additives on health are not known but are generally considered to be very concerning
  • Synthetic hair products can cause more harm than good for relatively natural hair that has not been exposed to constant staining, and in some cases, have led to toxicity in the nervous system and even cancer.

Organic hair products Advantages

  • The biological products gently infused hair follicles and skin cells with natural minerals, extracts, and herbal oils. This protects the integrity of the hair fiber and ensures long-term protection. Organic hair products gradually feed your hair to its healthiest state possible.
  • Natural hair products are free of hazardous elements found in chemical-based products. As such, the likelihood of irritation, allergic reaction or harmful exposure is significantly lower, if at all, than that of synthetic products.
  • These products are eco-friendly and much better for the environment than chemical ones. Since the ingredients are of natural origin, which imposes less harm to the environment. They tend to be safer for animals on water or land, more biodegradable in landfills and better for washing down the drain.

Disadvanatges

  • Natural hair products are relatively more expensive than synthetics because of their superior quality.
  • Most of these products are less commercial and therefore harder to find as compared to standard hair care products at your local supermarket.
  • Repairing instant damage is not a characteristic of organic products because natural ingredients take longer to be absorbed by your hair than synthetic ingredients.

Summary

In short, while synthetic hair products can provide immediate results and provide a long-term shelf life, general health effects are of great concern. Organic products, despite being relatively non-commercial and little more expensive offer lasting results
